Been a while, but if memory serves lens assy is a held on by friction -- believe two small dimples top & bottom on the housing which presses against some tabs with a matching detent on stainless steel long sides of the lens bezel. Tabs are an inch or two from each end. Should be able to just pull straight out by grasping the long sides & rocking a bit while pulling.

The lens cover pops off-My light did not work either. It turned out the light was not connected under the dash. Hopefully yours is the light bulb.

Thanks but nothing seems to be working. The plastic is very hard and doesn't have any bend to it. I slipped a very sharp blade between the lens and the metal form and all that did was to chisel away at the plastic. Something like taking a lens off a light should be a no brainer but if I apply more pressure I'll either crack the plastic lens or I'll bend the metal. Any other options? Wish I could have something like the Packard Squad show up in a Packard Repair car and save the day. Anyone who knows what they are doing live around Omaha?

Frank, I believe they are saying that the entire light cover comes off as one piece. Metal and plastic together. I can go pull mine off and take a picture for you.

Kev, beat you to it. Here are some from a 56 but maybe 54 has something different besides length. This was a bit snug as the dimples do fit right into the holes in the tabs.

Thanks all. All of that helped alot and it came off. It wasn't a bulb though. When I saw the picture, it all made sense to me - Frank

It gets power from the aux circuit breaker via body feed wire so if you have a trunk light or rear seat cigarette lighter that work then the power side is OK. Gets ground from either of the open door pillar switches or the manual slide switch on side. Any or all of those could be dirty or poor connection. There is also a 2 wire connector about 6 inches from the light stuffed behind the housing which could have broken or maybe never reconnected at some point if light was removed.
