Tom's 1930 733 Sedan

Dear folks,
I have been pondering using this site or creating my own to track the progress on my Sedan. After much pondering, I have decided to create my own site, and use this site to inform interested folks of major site updates. The site is currently hosted at: web.mac.com/tpwilcox/Packard_Paddock/Welcome.html At some point, I will move it to it's own domain. For now, I have published several photo albums showing my efforts with the carb, vacuum tank, and distributor. I have also started on the blog. Please note that I decided to go with my own site because of the greater flexibility it affords me, not because I have any poor opinions of packardinfo.com! Regards, Tom

I have added a few more photo albums, on the gen rebuild, the gen cut-out/regulator, and the beginning of the engine tear down. Also added a new blog entry on the start of the engine tear down.
Visitpackardpaddock.com to learn more! Cheers, Tom

Well, the engine has been removed! On Tuesday and Thursday of last week my brother Charlie and I worked to get various things ready for removal of the engine. On Saturday, with the help of a couple of pros, the engine was removed. To see photos and read about the experience:

Since the engine was removed, we have continued to disassemble the car, focusing on getting the shocks off and then staring disassembly of the front end. More info can be found at:

Hi Tom
Just want to say that I enjoy your website for your project immensely! Keep it up! I removed my engine as well but as I am only going to clean and paint, not strip it, my job is much easier than yours! I am still cleaning the bare frame from years of caked on grease and dirt. Removing an engine is always a daunting task especially one as big as ours. I practised on my very much smaller vw beetle engine and can remove that in 1 hour easily all by myself! Must say that having removed the front end does definitely make removing the packard engine easy.

Glad you like the the site! It has been fun to put together.
Not to second guess you, but since you have the engine out, perhaps you should at least pull the pan and head and check things out, de-carbon and clean, etc. I don't know if you did a compression check, but if not that might be a good idea. Your engine is around 60 years old, and while it is out, you might as well be sure you won't be needing to soon pull it again! Although your front is quite different from mine, I agree that taking the radiator, fenders, etc off really helped in getting access. Cheers, Tom

Not a lot has happened lately, but what has happened is discussed on the blog, which can be found at:
packardpaddock.com/Packard_Paddock/The_Paddock_Tribune/The_Paddock_Tribune.html I have also attached a photo of the brake support and arm. If anyone knows where to find this part, please contact me. Cheers, Tom

It has been quite awhile since the last update. Progress has been made, though slower given the very high temperatures in my garage during the Texas summer. I have posted entries and photos, which can be found by clicking the links in the previous post.
Cheers, Tom
