1937 Packard 115 windshield questions

I have three quick questions about the windshield in my car:

1. It's flat glass, so I'm planning on having a local glass shop cut me a new one. The windshield currently in my car is delaminated. Do I need to bring the old one in for a pattern?

2. Haven't seen the car in person yet, but from pictures, the windshield appears to be in a rubber seal with a windshield frame against the rubber and screwed to the body on the interior side. If so, it's put together exactly the same way as an old Willys Wagon I used to own. Am I correct? If not, how do I change the windshield glass?

3. Anyone have a recommendations for a good glass shop near New London, CT?

Thanks!

i know you are excited and this doesn't exactly answer your question, but wouldn't it be better to just wait till you get back state side to look the car over and start on everything then?

Cli55er- thanks for your input, and no that doesn't answer my questions. In my line of work, I have to take the advantage of time when I get it. Once I get to back to the states, I'm not sure what my schedule will be like, and I currently have the time to spare. Not like I can exactly go get a Haynes manual for my car and study up, right? The more I know now, the more quickly I can get things accomplished once I'm back stateside, especially if time is tight.

I won't pretend to know much about that model but looking at Steele"s windshield rubber offered for 37steelerubber.com/ I would think your assumption is probably correct. Some slightly earlier cars were mentioned on the forum as having a frame in two halves with screws holding them together that separated to remove glass.

well duuhhhhhh. lol!!

i just know that sometimes i get really excited about stuff and can start going way to fast and i know that slower is better in these things. i do it all the time. just thought maybe you were trying to rush is all, considering you have only seen pictures and not in real person.

i'm sure you know that pictures speak 1000 words, but real person speaks 10000 pictures.

didn't mean any harm.

No hard feelings...

I am excited, but I haven't put any money down, other than the car. I still have brand new parts for previous projects that never got installed, so I'm taking it slow in terms of buying stuff, but research is free. I know the major things I need to fix to get it safely on the road, and I know some things I need to figure out. What I don't know (abridged list) is:

what I don't know I don't know
See above!

Thanks for keeping me honest!

k

Did you know that the service manual and a parts manual is on this website? I tried to download them to help with your question, but my computer is being very slow. Check out the "Packard Literature and Manuals" section. Maybe they can help.

Link to Parts List

Thanks for the link- I had already downloaded and read the owners manual, but somehow missed the service manual(s) and parts list!
