What about Redwood? It wouldn't get eaten by termites.

Mmmm--not Redwood, too soft. We used Ash.That's what they used originally. I've not seen a car inflicted with termite damage (although I'm sure It has occured)
Ash is quite dimension-stable once kiln-dried.
