Notice in the Recent Photos, at right, packard7's "Detailed 47 Clipper 8" engine. My question, what is the tube/pipe on brackets above the left side of the cylinder head?

It was provided only on the 356 engines and was discontinued in '48 (I think).

NO, that's where you store your supply of clothes pins to be used to cure vapor lock, noisy lifters, and shift linkages that get stuck between first and second. I win!

Actually... clothespins are very handy to hold all sixteen lifter bodies in place and out of the way while you insert your cam shaft. Worked for me... and I didn't experience any vapor lock in the process.

You put your weed in there.
![]() It started with the 1941 356 engine. The 1940 356 does not have that feature.

The "crankcase ventilation" was also provided on the postwar Six engines of the 21 Series Packard Taxi models. I read this in the "Packard, A History..."book. I assume that this was the same tube device.
