I don't know if the tape will stick to the old cardboard very long with all the embedded dirt and papery powder coming off--I don't remember it getting terribly warm though but the element does look a bit different on that one. The one I played around with was mostly symbolic heat and was more properly called a defogger rather than defroster. As to the fiberglass, I am making a defroster duct out of the stuff to go with my AC build. Am not too worried about heat distorting it as much as the smell when it warms up.

Hmmmm....good point. Perhaps if I just fiberglass patched the outside it would be ok.

What do these power window motors/regulators look like? I may have some,but would need a pic because I have no idea what I`m looking at.

This is an undershot but I don't think it will do any good. It isn't close enough. The defogger is wired to either the regular heater fan or the underseat heater fan switch.

Here is another pict showing the 55 defroster and a bit different angle on the grill. Is yours a 6 or 12v unit. I believe the switch will be the same as the front heater. If you have the underseat heater, normally was in parallel with one or the other but could have a separate toggle switch under dash if desired. If no underseat heater, then used the blank hole.

What do these power window motors/regulators look like?

Packard motors will be round, about 3" in diameter and 4" long (not including any shaft or worm section) have two wires exiting--usually yellow and black-- and case will be natural zinc or painted black. In the double photo, one on left is a seat motor with no worm drive section. Window motors will have a worm and gear reduction section.

The only fan switch I have on my car is for the fresh air blower. Was there a separate switch for the under seat heater if installed?

I may install one of the under seat heaters on my car. I picked up two of them in the parts haul, just need to pressure check them for leaks.

I dont want the rear defroster wired to the fresh air blower motor with as I often use that while driving as it really moves a lot of cool into the car.

I believe the 54 is set up the same as V8 models. If so, with only the one heater you will have a switch on the left in 54 and the corresponding space on the right will have a blank fill piece. That blank piece is removed and a setup similar to the left switch is installed. The difference may come with labeling. I don't remember how 54 did it but in 55-6 the two actual function or fill pieces were labeled differently so that would be a consideration. The actual mount and switch assy is most likely identical between sides.

I think there is a small clipper emblem there at the moment. I dont think it is a plug in anyway.

55-6 was a triangular piece with a chrome tapered decorative stud like thing as a bolt head to fake the switch retaining nut and with a nut on the rear to hold it all in. Yours may be similar only has the clipper emblem on it??
