Could you please expand a bit on the kind of mentioned issues (steering heaviness, rattling, jiggling, missing self-aligning torque or the like)?
Usually the length of the tie rod needs to be adjusted, the rod itself sometimes has to straightened but mostly the ball joints fail. Symptoms of a failing ball joint start with a clicking or snapping sound when the wheel is turned and eventually turns into a squeaking sound when going over bumps or at the end of a stop, when the gas pedal is used. Field-tested: What may not visible on an unlifted car can become obvious on a lifted car as it becomes much more sensitive to steering problems.

Gusha gives some good advice but note that what he calls ball joints we'd call tie rod and pitman arm/drag link ends.
My personal view is that symptoms of front suspension problems are not always traceable to just one single item requiring attention. My recommendation would to to check out the entire suspension and following any needed repairs, then go for an alignment and a front wheel balance job. Hopefully you can find a truck shop that can balance the wheel, tire and brake drum as an unit assembly which is often the answer to shimmy - perhaps "bad bump steer" as you call it is what is usually called wheel shimmy. When checking the suspension, don't forget to carefully check the spring shackle bushings and bolts - unless the Bijur has been kept in service and used regularly, these are often very seriously worn and you'll never get good road manners no matter what else is done.
