Following is from HH on the freeze plug for the water pump housing:
Quote: Changing wouldn't be a bad idea on the manifold with it out. I can't speak to the size for sure as I have never measured it. Maybe one of the engine guys has a definitive answer but the parts manual says 1 3/8. What I don't know is if that is actual size or one of Packards examples of "we'll call it something for convenience but really it is +/- a 32nd" examples. i took pictures to confirm the size.

here are some of the parts i bought yesterday. i didn't actually drive in the freeze plug, its just there for looks.
i was going to be ordering my mains and rod bearings from Kanter (price was cheaper), but the pricing on there shipping just baffles me. just my opinion. i have a call placed with Max, even though they are more expensive (he tells me they are original or could be a michigan bearing....not the foreign stuff) hopefully he has them in stock, i really don't want more delays...its been long enough not working on my car. i did grind a bit more on my oil pan last night, didn't finish, but eh...alittle at a time right?? right! Jack is still looking for some aftermarket valve springs to go with the mild cam he redid for me. the people he was getting them from quit making them.....just my luck. boo! edit: i don't like that the freeze plug says CHINA.....grrrr lol! until later. enjoy. had to order my main and rod bearings from EGGE. unfortunately MAX didn't have .010 on the shelf. ah well, such is life.
so EGGE is the only one that had the mains in stock and the rods on order and going to be in in about 1 week and there shipping was based on weight of package, not some random equation. word to the wise....just turn your crank to .020...they are more available. fyi: mains in .010 are 150 rods in same are 136 so price is inbetween the two vendors and i can get them sooner. Thanks to the venders for trying though. Hank

At least as far as NOS or OEM bearings go, finding 0.010 undersize was difficult even 10 years ago.

got some parts from Santa today. Christmas in July right?
got the main bearings, yay for American made! Got the gasket set, the carb rebuild kit, the fuel pump rebuild kit, and the waterpump rebuild kit. i have an issue with the water pump housing though.....i think....not sure. it looks like it was cast this way, but it could be damaged too i'm not sure. the landing for the seal looks like it is missing on one side and there is a high spot on the backside.....both marked by arrows. any thoughts there guys? thanks, Hank Attach file: (116.64 KB) (137.86 KB) (120.79 KB) (110.50 KB) (91.48 KB) (122.19 KB) (137.24 KB) (96.33 KB) (175.68 KB) (154.19 KB) (116.40 KB) (141.26 KB) (160.90 KB) (130.34 KB) (136.76 KB)

i got my eyes on a potential replacement, but don't want to spend the money and i have limited time on it, so does anyone have a housing laying around they could compare to mine and let me know if this is normal?
thanks, Hank
