Tim's '55 Patrician

This past June I picked up my first Packard - a 1955 Patrician that has clearly seen better days. The price was right and it did run, except the brake system was shot and needed a complete rebuild. The summer was simply too hot to work on a car and it has taken me a while to get the parts for the brake system - especially new brake shoes. However, now with the weather turning cooler, I'm ready to start my project - just as soon as my 3-ton floor jack arrives.

Attached are a few pictures of the Patrician as I bought it. More will follow.

Congrats! If you end up needing any parts, aside from the big national vendors like Kanter and Max Merritt, there is a guy on this forum named AL down in Alabama who has an extra '55 Patrician with every factory option- he only removed the AC.

G'day Tim,
to PackardInfo and congratulations on your Packard purchase. I'll be following along as you work on the Pat, and please include lots of pic's. And speaking of including things please consider including a pic of your '55 Pat in it's Owner Registry entry, much better than the default pic from the Model Info pages.

Yes, I understand this car was up for sale for a while before I bought it from a guy in Philadelphia. The paint scheme was the idea of the owner previous to the one from whom I purchased the car and I think he did it himself. My wife and I are discussing whether, when it is finished and ready for new paint, to repaint it in the original factory colour, which is a code "F", or make it a two-tone light and dark blue. There is so much to do on this project that selecting paint colour seems so far in the future.

I think you would do well to repaint the car in its original Sapphire (Code F) single-tone scheme, but not merely for the sake of authenticity. Two-tones look great on the Four Hundred and Clippers, but the 55-56 Patrician sedans seem to look more stately in a single exterior color, and the dark blue metallic is a nice color. Just my $0.02.

One other thing I ought to mention is that the car currently is missing both kick panels and the rear package tray. I've been looking to see if anyone makes reproductions for the '55 or '56 senior models, but no luck so far. The places I've contacted said they would be happy to fabricate them if I could provide a template; however, mine are missing. I know that I'm probably getting ahead of myself worrying about those items when the car needs so much mechanical work, but you never know where you might find something.

I've posted some photos of the problem.
