Stumbled upon some Clipper images we had kicked around last year and had another thought... move the front axle forward 7 inches, rake the grill several degrees and add a rear mount. Front appearance and other tweaks similar to what we already dicussed. Thoughts?

I'm not a fan of the rear spare. It completely spoils the streamlining. However, I love the wider vertical grille on the bottom photo. Also, your moving the fenders forward of the grille is a big improvement.

Interesting look with the extended front fenders. I think it would be smoother looking with the front fenders blended into the doors. Agree with the comment about the outside spare tire. The wider and more slanted grille looks better than the original. I enjoy looking at your styling ideas, thanks.

Appreciate the comments, thanks. Here's the car without a rear mount. I had included it mainly for proportions. To my eye the Clipper has a somewhat abrupt decklid so the idea was to use a rear mount to add length and visual mass in back. I see what you are saying though, the Clipper is very streamlined, easily upset by add-ons.

Went with the separate front pontoons to give the body a curvy coke bottle shape. Had tried the flow-through fender look a la Pierce Silver Arrow some time back. Also tried a half-high flow through like what Darrin wanted and Buick made, take a look.

Thats exactly what I thought.... reminds me of a Rolls.

The last efforts strongly resemble the Carl Evers design proposals for the post-Clipper Packards. They were too late for the 1950s but would have been in style in the immediate pre-war years. Personally, I like the European look.
