...other investigating which seems to reject the hypothesis that the tag shown in post #20 of this thread is an early pre-war Briggs tag... picture from #20 Dave (O_D), right after seeing the 41 LeBaron body tag it occured to me to have seen a prewar Ford with a body made by Briggs. It came without embossed "Briggs" branding and used another number system but: - it was the same small tin strip - screwed left and right - radiused at both ends (I believe) It seems to be something special because "usual" prewar Ford bodies have the known Briggs body number tag as shown below. If you deem it worthy, I feel optimistic about finding a pic. [picture #2 source: www.mafca.com]

Packard has more questions than I could ever imagine. It seems like every time a question is asked there are several opinions and no definite resolution. At least there is the board minutes, but they may not reveal what really happened.
Maybe the question to be asked is: Does anyone out there with a 1941-42 Clipper or Packard have one with a Briggs body tag? We'll wait and see what develops... (o[]o)

John, perhaps and even probably I'm at fault but as long as the curtain isn't lift let's keep the door open to root for the underdog theory. Here comes a first search result. Not a real picture but an enlarged thumbnail. And not a Ford but and Olds. And nobody is talking about Briggs. And it is from a postwar car. And it is fixed with hex head screws instead of slotted-head screws. And unfortuately I can't offer the story behind the pic because the link isn't working anymore. But we come closer. It is just to show you that the hunt is on. sources: pic #1:cr4.globalspec.com pic #2: somewhere at www.jalopyjournal.com Attach file: (19.60 KB)

Dave, do we know the VIN # of the LeBaron?
Quote: ... the Briggs number should match the vehicle number in the first (left-most) set of digits, and is usually quite close, often matching, to the VN...[Dave(O_D) 2009/11/17] Is this knowledge helpful for a clear assignment of the LeBaron tag to Briggs? To put it another way: Does the first (left-most) set of digits match the VIN# from the LeBaron? Attach file: (36.67 KB)

Gusha, the "1421" does correspond to a 1941 LeBaron 7-pass sedan which the vehicle was. Whether the patent plate showed it as car #8 (VN #1421-2008) I don't know.
What we really need to do is get observations from 1941 and 1942 Clippers, and specifically do they have tags similar to the one on LeBaron #8.

Gusha, you're observation from a pre-war Briggs-built Ford may or may not be significant - we'll just have to await more observations and information. Thanks for thinking about it.
