Ok for starters my user name is my first name referencing another car in my collection. A 1988 BMW M6. The collection is diverse but fun.

I have had an interest in Packards for years, but discounted them due to cost. Well a few years ago a fellow Corvair owner informed me of the one that is subject of this blog. BTW I also have a 1965 Corvair CORSA convertible that we finished a frame off in 1997.

I learned of my 120B in fall of 2002 and the purchase was completed over the Christmas holiday of that year. Though I said I would never buy a basket case I did in this case. I looked at the car in November and found the owner had started a drivers restoration and lost interest. The car was first restored in the 1980's. The restoration was mostly cosmetic with some attention to mechanical restoration. Even though it was disassembled the owner was meticulous and organized. Thus far we have only discovered two items that are missing. These are the spark plug wire loom and the crankcase draft tube, so if anyone can help???

The original intent was to complete the drivers restoration and put the car on the road. Not leaving well enough alone, I started a full show restoration. Just a question of whether my patience or cash runs out first!

Thus far, the chassis, engine, transmission and rear end are completed. The suspension is assembled and engine and trans are in place. The body goes to the metal stripper in October. The direction now is to repaint the car in Buckingham Gray (bluish black) with a black top piped in red and red leather interior. Quite a departure from cream and tan colors of now, but will be factory correct.

As with most of these projects the business comes first, but I will try to update from time to time. Thanks for reading!

Looking good. Very nice car. I like your color choice. It should make a very dramatic car. Personally, I like these cars better without the fender skirts. But, obviously it's yours and after all you do have them.

Lovely project. For those interested, the engine picture illustrates one of the unique features of the 35-36 block, that being the location of the crankcase vent. Also, one very minor suggestion, I note you have a lovely painted transmission, ready to mount in your beautiful frame. Be advised there is an auxillary ground strap from transmission top cover to frame, where you will want to be sure you have good metal to metal contact. Other than that, carry on....

thanks, wasn't aware of that as it didn't exist when I got the car. is this supposed to be a woven strap or regular style cable?

Flat woven strap. Available at most any parts store. I get mine from NAPA.
