Gerd,

Now that you've baited the line and spread the berley you'd better start hauling in the line because I for one am hooked.
Or, if you do, will the full vengeful force of the KGB come crashing down?

Begs the question, how much did the car now weigh "all up"?

Gerd,

No bull!

An awful lot of avoirdupois there. It goes without saying the suspension is beefed up considerably but what about the tyres? What brand/type/rating did they use to support the extremely large load?

And an question, What is the sports car next to the Limo? Allard?

I believe a similar armoured Packard was built for Walter Ruether, the American labor union organizer. Perhaps one of the heaviest U.S. cars built was the "Father Devine" Duesenberg which apparently suffered all kinds of maladies from it's excessive weight. I don't think it was armoured but it was built on a greatly extended wheelbase. Somewhere I have some information on both cars, I'll see if I can find it over the next few weeks.

Gerd,

Again the depth of your research is remarkable. This is compounded by the difficulties, not to mention time and effort you've spent, in the task of translation. And, your doorway to Yaroslavl is another insight into the "Cultural Revolution" to borrow a phrase.

But what is it, this Russian kg/cm? and how to explain to Mal who perhaps asked for psi = pounds per square inch, while I prefer to measure it as at?=atmosphere. And I am distantly aware of the possibility that perhaps Owen is waiting at the next corner to welcome me with "call them what you will according to the customs of your area; where and when I grew up, we always called it pish-posh and all what you need to measure it is an attentive view and a bit of spit..." .........

Gerd,

I grew up at a time when tyre pressures were measured in psi here and that's the one I still use even though Oz converted to Metrics over 30 years ago.
So your 2.5 & 3.5 convert to 35 & 50 psi approximately. to your handy plug in table!
The era of "attentive view and a bit of spit..." I did use at one stage in my boyhood for inflation of bicycle tyres too.
From the close up pic's of the wheels and tyres it's obvious to see the heavy duty componentry used.

I've not heard that the Father Divine Duesenberg survived, but I suppose it could be hidden away in some garage in Philadelphia, Duesenbergs have a VERY high survival rate. Brings to mind Mr. Leno's recent "find" of a Duesenberg which some of you may have read about recently.

Damn! The secret's out! I figured if Obama's gonna be elected I might as well sport a .50 Cal on the Speedster for "self defense" purposes!
