1938 wire coming out of steering gear box

I did see a thread about headlight switch in the Steering box.. But this is a single wire going into the end of the steering box. Can some identify the purpose ?

That's the horn wire. It should lead to the horn relay.

Thanks for the invite, I'm interested in learning more about my car... It is missing the vin Plate/sticker, and the motor has been modernized. Only thing left is the Anti Theft # 486812. I did see where this # may indicate the year of the body.. assuming the "8" may mean 1938 ?

Even my mid-‘60s and later cars were done the exact same way! With the horn on a rotating wheel, it’s about the only way possible.

As for the anti-theft number, it has no meaning at all and virtually no documents exist that reference them.

'55 400. Needs aesthetic parts put back on, and electrical system sorted.
'55 Clipper Deluxe. Engine is stuck-ish.

Title of the post says 1938 while the interior photo shows a car with a column shift ala '39. '38's were the last year with a floor shift, so a conundrum there. '38's also came with an ID decal in lieu of an ID plate and most of the decals have not survived the years.

Theft-proof number 486812 would be a 1939 body. 1939 numbers ran from 468392 to 517170.

Dancesr for including your Packard in the Registry.

Note O_D's comment concerning the Theft Proof Number which idicates your Packard is a 1939 and not a 1938. Your Registry entry is easily correctible if this is the case.

A very nice looking Packard with no outward signs of the 350/TH transplant.
