Hi,
1940 Packard 160 Super 8 Club Coupe. Picked up on 7/13/2024. The body is very solid. Only a few pings and dings to knock out and a few rust holes to patch. I will also post videos to my youtube channel as they come together. Picked up in Pennsylvania, the car is now at my home in North Adams, Massachusetts. Today I will start cleaning out and seeing what is there. Attach file: home 5.jpg (341.64 KB) 441478531_1174397706907279_8865807758688643514_n.jpg (148.00 KB) Ricks 1.jpg (277.93 KB)

Yes, Congrats on rescuing another 160. I hope you can use the Duchess Project blog to help you as everyone here helped me. There are lots of pictures and lots of problems worked on that are specific to '40 160s. I'll be following your progress with interest.

Saturday evening, I took apart the engine. It wasn't stuck which made things a bit easier. Most of the top rings were broken. It will need over bore due to ridge and cylinder taper. While I haven't yet checked for cracks, the block looks pretty good for rebuild. Wow, what a chore on taking out all the head studs.
This engine is a 1941. The sales day of this 1940 160 coupe was on 10/12/39. I feel a bit of desire to find an earlier 356 with a date appropriate for this 160. Maybe I shouldn't worry about it, but I am at the crossroads now before I invest in this 41 engine.

Hi Kevin, Yes, Body will come off the frame. Once the humidity settles down, I will blast and epoxy prime the body. Also, that will give me access to paint the frame. thanks, Mark

I wouldn't worry too much about the date code as long as it has an engine number beginning with C which was for 1940. If it begins with D, then it is indeed a 1941 engine.

Looks like original paint with no old bodywork. Did you get the bolts and hardware with the car?
