WANTED: 22nd Series Hood, Black
#1

Hello. I am looking for a full hood for a 1949 Deluxe 8 Touring Sedan. Must be black and in very good to excellent physical condition, and the paint also.

I am located in Northeast Oklahoma but I'm willing to travel a reasonable distance, if necessary, to get the right item at the right price.

Thank you.

I would be surprised if there is even one hood in the whole world ready for sale in that condition. Also, there are different shades and glossiness of black.

If you want it to match your car, I would get any hood with decent metal, then take it to your local paint shop along with the old hood; have them strip the old paint on the new hood, and match the paint. I can't see this being any more expensive than someone having to do essentially the same thing right before they sell you a hood.

I have several hoods in very nice condition. No rust or dents, but not shiny black. May have a black hood but not ready to install. 520-336-0057 Mike/ Tucson Packard

I can almost guarantee you'll never find one ready to go so find a good one and paint it to match. Even if NOS it would have to be painted.

My concern is, and this may be due to naivety, that a freshly painted Hood put on a car with a 75-year-old paint job that's in very good condition, mind you, would look funny. Am I wrong?

A good painted should be able to paint the hood, and the blend the paint into neighboring panels.

Even on newer cars, they have to blend or you can always tell a repainted panel next to one that is not.

On a nice day just take off the old hood and take it to a couple local paint shops and ask if they could match the paint.
