Jack: are you offering a 200-4R conversion for Packard V-8?

Keith: T-U was in the 56J.

FWIW, the TH400 was brought up in this thread. The 700R4 and 2004R all use the same bolt pattern and torque convertor adapters as the TH 400. If one were considering the TH400, the 200R4 is a viable alternative which should be considered.

thnx, jack vines

I'm wondering how practicle it would be to use a T'Ultra bellhousing to mount a manual shift trans to the Packard V8. No adapter needed??? The main issue would be trans input shaft length. I'm guessing that centering would be rather ez requiring a lathe turned 3 inch centering disk as a tool for centering the trans to the T'Ultra bellhousing for mount drilling..

Why not just get a manual shift bellhousing and trans out of a base model Clipper? they did make a few of those cars.

Been there, done that. Used a B/W T90 trans from a Kaiser with a Jeep input shaft and Jeep floor shifter. The T90 isn't strong enough to handle the torque of the Packard V8 though.

Jack -

Is the 200R4 an overdrive transmission too? Are the overdrive ratios the same as the 700R4? vAnd do you have a kit or how would the installation be made?

I would be worried about the 200-4R being able to handle the torque of the Packard V-8. I know of some drag racing guys in NHRA Stock and Super Stock who are using the 200-4R, but those are highly modified and $$$.

Yes, the 200R4 is relatively weak compared to the 700R4.

My only question is WHY would the 200R4 be easier to adapt than the 700R4 ??????????????

Because it's smaller than a 700R4, and will fit into tight spaces better. Plus, IIRC, more of the 200R4's are non-electronic, the same can't be said about the 700R4.
