Indeed James Nance was part of the Edsel saga, however, in all fairness; the Edsel Divisions lot was already cast. The car was basically designed and approved by the time he came on.

You basically hit the nail on the head about the challenges Edsel Division faced during introduction in late '57.

There were some initial QC issues like soft cams, and some shift motor bugs. They were worked out quickly, basically leaving a mechanically reliable love it or hate it styling for the public to ultimately vote on with their dollar. I am really not a big fan of the 58 or 59 styling, but others love it.
