The tag on the engine side firewall is more commonly called the Briggs tag and was the number used when Briggs built the body. The official vehicle number was assigned when the body started down the assembly line and is the one on the door jamb. While the official number is most often the same as on the Briggs tag, if for some reason the body was placed on the line out of order the official number can be different by a few digits.

Here is an example of a 54 VN Door Jam Plate. There were no provisions for the trim code on it, it was on a sticker on the passenger side of the glovebox.

The 1955 plate had the trim codes.
