Got the bushings, shocks, and hydraulic stabilizer ordered from Max Merritt.
Thanks for the info on the stabilizer. It’s fascinating how they were changing designs to improve the ride.

Looking at correcting the driver's side sag on my leaf springs as well. Can someone point me towards where I can find the specs for how high my 53 Cavalier should be sitting? I would guess both sides are a bit weak, but not sure.

Some people say:

"go to a truck shop and have them re-arch the springs"

Kanter sells new springs, I think Max Merrit might also.

Probably they both get them from Eaton Detroit Spring.

I don't know what it "should be". Maybe someone else can help. I bought some helper springs until I feel like a fresh infusion of cash is warranted, and set it up so the rear was just ever so slightly higher. Your mileage may vary:

I have helpers in the rear of my car. It worked perfectly for my sagging rear. I put those on about six years ago as I was scrapping coming out of the driveway. Not a problem since.

A good general guide is that when the car is unloaded and on level ground, the bottom edge of the wheel skirt should just cut through the middle of the hub cap or slightly above center.

In this picture, my car is probably sitting about an inch or so higher than normal in the rear.

I just had a look at this picture in the owners manual and this would suggest the back should be even a bit higher. But if my front is sitting a little bit low as well, which presumably after 70 years it is, I don't want to jack up the back and make it look like a funny car!

Quite possible. Given the price of fuel, and the less than stellar fuel economy of my car, I think I'll adjust the springs so the car sits at the height I want with an empty fuel tank.
