You would like to get below the glass transition temperature of the rubber, but if you get too cold it pulverizes the material into a powder. That's how some flexible casting powders are made.

I like his idea of coating the surface, as it is probably full of microcracks after machining.

So yes, dry ice to cut and N2 to grind, but it's still difficult.

There is another way using very high pressure but not for parts like this.
