Hi Barrie - love the Jack Russell !!

Know I'm a pain but could you possibly photograph the metal cores again on a plain background and closer in please ?

This would be really helpful.

Keenly awaited - been today to see my old girl and for once she was outside so got some more photos in daylight for a change - post 'em later meanwhile this is Spot my Daughter's and her husband's Jack Russell.

Here is i hope some better photos.

The pieces are in a bad state and rusted. I found that the rubber traps moisture and dust then rusting underneath. This was the only place on my car with some rust through cause of this rubber. I understand your problem with rain. I will probably never use my car in the rain and it is under cover all the time. Also our hot weather will help to dry out the car quickly.

Your cars paint looks great! Great color.

Thanks for prompt reply again - the photos are great and I'm sure will be a great help to me

I've altered the Topic name - for us anyways - as we aren't talking about CKDs to S Africa anymore !! Funny thing is I seem to remember that I started a Topic on door seals some time back and the response was mimimal.

I'll get out my Steele Rubber new rubbers I purchased and see if I can concoct a core in some material that will last longer than the first trip out in the rain !!

One small query : do the ones you have on your car look as though the rubber was moulded on ? or are the core and the rubber separate ? answer to that one will be agreat help too.

By the way over here we call the Jack Russells "rough coated" (my Daughter's) and "smooth coated" (yours)

Photos attached which show my car yesterday when she was outside with better light and I was able to get a little further away for a better shot or two plus she has the trunk lid attached now.

The Old Guy (about my age I guess !!) in photos 1 & 2 was fascinated as you can see. What colour is YOUR steering wheel please ? Thinking of doing mine cream to match the roof ?

They look like they are made of wire or thin rod with tabs wrapped on them.

If you used copper wire and copper plumber's hangers they would never rot. Likewise stainless steel wire, which would be even better. You might get green verdigris dripping off of copper.

The cores for the door seals are made of steel strips with tabs at right angles. The original rubber seal was bonded to the core and fastened to the door pillar with glue and also by screws through the holes in the tabs. I'll try to add some photos later.

Yes, they are flat metal with the tabs bent at right angles. My rubber was totally rotten, but I dont think it needs to be bonded as the screws will hold it tight anyway. I would think that a galvanised or stainless material would work nice, but it needs to be rather thin so it can bent to the body shape but also be stiff enough to actually hold the rubber.

My steering wheel is black as the car was a standard model. No fancy paint here. Seeing as yours is painted already I think it would look great in the same cream as the body. The auto paint works great, just roughen it up with some sanding paper. I did this on my 61 chev steering wheel and it is still in good condition. What is your plans with the dash?
