I think that your bracket is fine, you're just missing the spacer that takes up the difference between the generator ears and the bracket. The accompanying image is taken from the Packard assembly drawing for the 288 engine and shows the generator mounting detail. You should be able to make up a replacement spacer pretty easily.

So where can I get a copy of the assembly drawings? That looks like an extremely valuable tool for working on a 60 year old car!
