I was able to get one of the fuzzies out of the stainless window flap today. That was fun. The seal is crimped in 4 places and it's so tight that I don't think I would have been able to undo those crimps w/o damaging the face of the flap.
So I decided that the only way to remove it was to take my Dremel and small grinding wheel and cut out the crimped sections. If I ruin the piece Gerry will be happy to replace it, I am sure.

Then I had to use a pair of screwdrivers to chip off all of the dry-rotted seals.
A large one to chip off the front-facing seal and a very tiny screwdriver to press into each of those holes in order to remove the seal from the back side.

I then sprayed some PB Blaster behind the seal to break up the rust. A little while later I used some needle nose pliers to work the seal forward (like a door hinge) and it slipped right out of the groove. You can see the "curled" ends of the seal in the last image. I don't think I am going to find a replacement seal with an edge like that so will have to find something else or glue in a seal.

Not much focus right now but have lots of small Packard projects going on around me.

Received a shipment of shiny parts from Packard Southwest today. That blew my budget for April.

Installing the new windows channel on the vent windows. I thought I had them done until you folks explained my error on the channels. Already have one of them done and should finish this one tomorrow.

Also chipping away at connecting the wire harness. This is not a strong area for me. Doing my best to follow the directions to the Painless Harness and checking out the Packard wiring drawing in some areas. I will have some questions for you guys soon on some of the wiring.

I put the passenger door on yesterday. Getting it aligned is not easy at all. As you can see in the 2nd image I am still off about 3/4 of an inch.

Is the regulator installed in the correct location? I was not expecting it to be at an angle but the holes align for it.

I believe senior V8 models had the regulator horizontal with the terminals pointing up. In 56 they used a rubber insulating piece over the terminals to prevent inadvertent shorts.

Here are a couple of 55 engine compt photos.

At least for 1956, Clipper (and by extension the Packard Executive) used Autolite which mounted differently than the Delco-Remy used in the other models of Packard. I can’t speak specifically for 1955 but I expect there were similar differences due to the different bolt pattern between them and their overall size with Autolite being a little smaller. The regulator in the photo that Howard posted, though, doesn’t look like either one to be but it has the Delco-Remy mounting.

I got the starter to turn using the ignition key today and nothing melted.

That might be a small thing for some of you but it is huge for me.

Any tips or tricks to get more movement from the front door? My attempts to align it, are not bearing fruit.

Nothing has changed in that area throughout all my work.
The lower hinge has a little movement from wear, I guess, but the top hinge is nice and tight.

I never did figure out how to get the hinges out so, there is that.

OK, no suggestions on my door alignment question from yesterday.

So, let me put this out there.
The unthreaded bolt holes of the hinges are 13/32 (.406). I am considering drilling them out to 7/16 (.437) to see if that gives me the extra movement to align the top of the passenger door.

Probably a picture to show what alignment issue you are trying to solve would help. Lots of ways a door can be out of alignment.

OK, I'll try some pictures.

I used a yardstick in Image1 to show how much height I need to make up.

Image2s shows the door closed as far as I can close it

Image3 shows the vent window. The front end of the door appears to be in good shape. It's just the back end that is causing me problems.
