You know, the charm of these cars is that this is AUTOMATIC, right out of the box,in 1955. People who don't know Packards (which is just about everyone) is amazed when the automatic function is demonstrated. A guy running a toggle switch--not so much.
It's not a hard system to diagnose and fix, there are enough NOS timer boxes in the world and starter solenoids that makes it a fairly easy thing to fix.
