Able to get over to the car this weekend to do a couple of things.

Got the rear bumper painted with the first coat. Second coat should clean it up nice.

Also put on the air cleaner. I got the support on the cleaner, but now I am questioning the placement on the block. Looks like i will need to remove the nut that is also holding the support for the horn. Before I do, i want to confirm, this is ok, and I am not going to start a sequence of things, and put something into an "imbalance"?

Do I have any concerns if I loosen the nut and attach the support arm?

Loosening the nut, then retorqueing it won’t hurt anything. Check the torque later after a few warm and cool-downs.

The bumper guards and name plate look nice. I know nothing about 1937 Packards but the guards’ orientation seems odd. Is that the way they are supposed to be?

On my '37 120, the horn brace goes on first, then the air cleaner brace and washer. The air filter brace goes on the head bolt nearest the carburetor. The bumper guards are installed correctly. The more pointed side goes goes down.

I'd find out the head bolt torque spec, then assemble the parts and tighten the removed head bolt to about 80% of the recommended torque. Then go over ALL the head bolts, using a good torque wrench, in the proper order and be sure they are all at recommended torque. Be sure the bolt hole is clean and free of coolant or debris. Be sure the air cleaner brace is located correctly before tightening the head bolt.

So I found this discussion topic and Mal posted these specs. I am fairly certain this matches my 1937 120C, per the decoder. 282 (*straight 8)

Added my pic's again and confirn that 63 lbs ft is the correct torque setting for 282 head nuts. ALL Packards of that era were torqued to 63 lbs ft, 6,8 and 12. I used 63 in rebuiling my '41 282 using the spiralling sequence shown and tightening in increments then retightening after 100 miles and later after more extended usage until further tightening was not required. Still going strong when I sold the car 20,000+ miles later.
