Disc brakes are inherently safer than drum brakes will ever be, and won't fade as fast as drum brakes. They're also 100 times easier to work on than drum brakes. Eventually, all my Packards and all future Packards I own will have 4 wheel disc brakes.

Hello,

Summit Racing hosted a Studebaker-Packard Cruise-in this Summer. I had been researching Willwood calipers for the my 1956 Patrician. These folks answered all my questions.

The set-up was drawn on the computer to check the fit of the caliper and to design a new adapter plate. Any opinions.

I have disc brakes on my 55 Pat which work extremely well. Drawing up some CAD stuff means nothing.

Like the 3/8 support better than 1/4 some had mentioned. Not quite following the reason for the offset at the bottom. Have to look at one but wasn't the original backing plate all on the same plane and on outside like at top?

Hello,

Craig, I have been driving with the disc brakes on my 1956
Patrician all summer. This is an upgrade. I believe I sent you photos of my first disc setup earlier this year. The Willwood caliper has larger pads.
I did not want to machine the boss of the steering arm, that is why I chose the offset.

Thanks for the drawings. I did not mean that ONLY CAD drawings would work. But since you have both, you have my vote!

Disc brakes are the final answer, but they are obviously difficult to make work in practice. Jerry is to be lauded.

I would buy your kit for my 53 junior daily driver. I can't seem to get the drum brakes to work properly.

"I'm working on disc brake conversion kits for 48-56's.
i'd like an idea of how many people are interested. that way i can decide if i want to make a large run of parts, or make the kits as needed."

I just bought a 1953 Patrician and would like to put on disc brakes. I have only had it a week. First Packard.
I was going to go though the brake first,they work fine ,but I would put disc on .Thank you
