No, it's made specifically to bolt to the firewall. 37's didn't have a hood support. The hood just kind of flopped over and that put stress on the center hood clips.

It comes with a little template to show where to install the brackets on the firewall.

This also allows you to have both sides of the hood open at once.

I could see that it bolted to the firewall but it appears to have extra support under the rod. Otherwise not sure why the long bracket is there.

Anyway, I only every parted out one 1937 so not too familiar with them and my 1940s apparently had a deeper cowl as there was no need for a support on those. There were some little dips stamped into the cowl in which the rear corners of the hood could rest on its rubber corner protectors.

These brackets are shaped like a V and both legs mount to the firewall. Nothing is on the radiator support bars.

I cleaned up the carbs a bit. Took dashpots apart (those dome things with the brass plugs) and cleaner up the interior and the needles. So now the piston thingy rises and fails smoothly. There was a lot of muck in there, and the needles were pretty crusty.

Seams to be idling a bit smoother now.

Also, when checking everything, I realized the wire harness was going to be an issue with the air cleaner clearance. Also, I decided I really wanted a cleaner look. So I pulled the engine wiring back through and ran it under the dash and out the passenger side. This made the firewall much cleaner.

I also wired the AMP gauge up correctly, and it now reads appropriately.

Looks great! Keep in mind that the carburetors may not be ethanol compatible so maybe modern kits and seals are in order.

Although those support brackets are nice….A piece of wood sitting on top of the support bars against the firewall does the same trick for way less than 50 bucks. You can even cut a little V notched groove on each side to place the edge of the hood in.

I had a similar pair of hood support brackets on my 115C. They were a heavy gauge u-shaped sheet metal. They did not have the bottom support brackets and because of this not very strong. I lined the brackets with some sheet rubber and made some bottom support brackets. They worked great. I believe they were sold by Wally Wamsley when he was into these 37s back in the early 1990s.

For the future reference, your local Home Depot stocks carpet for 1937 Jackards. It's good for Closed Cars (Indoor) and Open Cars (Outdoor).

For less than $40, Voila, custom carpet.
