The softer copper surface against the block because if damage occurs from the gasket, its easier to resurface a head than to deck a block.

As far as minimizing unwanted galvanic effects, don't forget to grease the shanks (but NOT the threads) of the head studs.

Is anyone reproducing door and ignition tumbler sets? I remember seeing some not too long ago but can’t find the source now.

Please help! I need a good, clear photo of a Gear Start shift indicator. Surely there are some here so can you please take one for me? I need to have one made but need the photo to be able to do so.

Can't think of anyone off hand with a Packard model having gear start. If you check with Big Kev he might be able to take a photo of his Clipper piece but I believe the print color will be different so maybe no help if you are wanting the detail needed to repro the senior piece.

I’ve written to BigKev several times over the last couple months for a photo but no reply. I know he’s been busy, though, and his can’t possibly be the only one here which is why I posted.

Thank you but that's not a 1954 Gear Start which is unique. Same style as all of 1951-1954 indicators, mounted the same on the column just behind the wheel rather than inside the dash but has different markings than other 1951-1954 Ultramatic. I know what the markings need to be but I need to see what they look like. So far the only image I've found is in the Gear Start training manual but it's only representative of the indicator and is not a photo of an actual one.

Forgot all about that thread.

Don this link will go straight to the photos you are looking for. Just too bad the gearstart photo was not straight on but maybe adequate to see the style.https://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=22150&post_id=215046#forumpost215046

I thought I remembered a difference in finish. Clipper letters are white and match the speedo, senior sector appears to be gold although it is interesting the speedo looks like it has silver letters. Guess the next question might be is the gold on the sector letters actually silver or maybe the speedo was gold that faded.
