I pretty sure the shoes on my 54 are thr "floating" type like the pictured Napa ones. The ones on these old shoes are pinned to shoes themselves.

Any thoughts on if there is supposed to be a cotter pin?. I'd say since there appears to be a hole for one.

I would say yes to a cotter pin.

My 1937 115-c. Front shoes were riveted and seemed like original in good shape. I used kanter shoes also . I had to open up the new shoes up to fit the slightly thicker shoes The original shoes are slightly thinner maybe thinking back .040 but the big difference is on mine the tops were reinforced on each side wherethey attach to the top holding pin to take up the side to side play. So I made up spacers to take up the play front and back. Yes pins.

What is the purpose of this other spring and the "wheel" on these brakes? My '54 didn't have these.
Also, those springs were not included in the rebuilt kits, so I imagine I'll just use what I had. But I think the passenger side one was just a spring someone found and used it doesn't appear to match the style of the one on the driver's side. So I guess if possible I'd like to find the correct ones.

I heard back from Kanter. The "missing links" are being shipped out today from them.
So I guess while I wait, I'll roughen up the old paint on the backing plates and give them a fresh coat of paint. Also, I'll move on to doing the rear brakes, or at least the driverside, which is currently accessible.

Apparently that round button like thing on the backing plate is an eccentric adjustment of some kind for the secondary shoe and the small spring must keep the shoe in contact with it or maybe is additional antivibration control.
Here is a bit from an early Motors Manual and there are also some adjustment instructions in the 37-8 SM. No mention of the spring in the SM though. Just FYI, Motors said 37 used the Bendix type 2 system with eccentric.
