Regarding the taking of photos at the Warren museum (or any museum), I think it all depends on the people on hand at the time. Mary Ann, the director (I think that's her title) at Warren is very helpful, and SHE does know about Packards. I was there in 2012 and asked to take detailed photos of the two Pan Americans on display. She not only dropped the ropes but allowed me to open the doors and hoods. I took MANY photos that day. Send me a PM and I will arrange to send you a CD of my photos.

Yes, the later seniors has chrome housings. When did it change, I don't know that we will ever know.

Well, the rosterkeeper for the V8s should have been tracking this and other anomalies - like the painted ash tray bezels. They're every bit as important as the finish of the hood emblem or whether a car had one or two door jamb switches, IMHO. Of course, it's never to late to go back and try to get that info.

Look at the horn button on #1, and compare it to the CL one. The CL one has a lighter background, silver?, and #1 has a dark background.

OK, I noticed the background was darker on #1, but chalked that up to the general level of deterioration of the car. Are there other such examples of horn button emblems, but in better condition, with same darker background?

Quote:
I looked at this...And it looks bluer than what's in the car, but that could due to the sun. However the seats are white, and the sample has blue leather.

I have the those PDFs on my HDD, plus an original 55 (as well as 56) dealer album and original 55-56 parts book (which I scanned for this site) in my personal archive. It's hard to say whether the seats are trimmed in white or just badly faded. Yet, notice that the housing for the aftermarket, underdash A/C evaporator unit is light blue. The build strip might tell us whether this is a SPECial trim set.

The early cars I have seen, the blower behind the grill had a scoop. The later ones did not have it.

I can't recall that detail from my long-gone 55, and my 56s are all stored offsite, but inaccessible thanks to another lovely winter.

Here are photos of the engine. Not much to say about them except one get to view them in the open. The vibration damper and pulleys may be of interest. Also, the air cleaner for the propane system is interesting.

The crest in the horn button is indeed on a dark background.

The leather and vinyl trim are white or very close to white.

The instrument panel padded covering appears to be black and contrasts with the body colored panel.

Folks in the San Antonio are working on trying to locate previous owners. We shall see what they find.

I think the discussion criticizing asking price and the mark-up the seller may gain is a bit extreme. If you did not know the cost of the Packard and were only looking at the asking price, what would be your comment?

Enjoy your Sunday.

This is one of the most fascinating threads to come along on the 55/56 V8's in a long time......I'm enjoying it immensely....thank you for all your effort in posting the photos and your most welcome comments. The negative posts about cost/seller and this car ARE extreme....I'm ignoring them at this point and hope most others view this for its historical content on the construction of the early '55 models....

we are all GREATLY indebted to the gentleman who has taken these outstanding photos to document this historically significant car. Bless you

to answer the question, If I ran across the car at $3500 with no previous knowledge of the sale price I would say the seller has a drastically overpriced parts car with the awesome factor of it being car number 0001 that is adding only slightly to it's value. The seller is fishing and his bait is very weak.

take care

JW,
Great eye to detail on the photos.

What brand A/C is this? I wonder what year it was installed? The pulley installation is kind of interesting. The nut looks like it has spot welds!

I am not familiar with the reason, or how it works, so when were the 1st cars converted to propane? I guess you just bought a kit to do this?

Thanks JW.............. YOUR efforts are APPRECIATED!

As I write this post............I am aware of the location of the 'latest' known 5582 per Stewart Blond's roster at PAC. Stewart keeps a tremendously important living document alive by his continued work for this hobby.

I actually found the Patrician here in the Tucson area some years back. If $$$ were no object ......aye , yai , yai! The vehicle unfortunately is a part cars but I would be happy to photograph it for comparison purposes if their is value in doing so.

I'd also need specific points of interest obviously. I don't want to do task when our temperatures reach 100+ here in the southwestern USA.

Here are some photos of the transmission. Again, not much to say here except ability to view out in the open. The earlier photo of the shift quadrant was to see if the 1954 Gear Start pattern was used or the new one for the Twin Ultramatic. The new TU pattern was used.

Here are several more photos. These show some exterior details.

Question about the rear bumper: Does the fillet on the top front edge of the bumper only appear on the early cars? This looks different to me than what I remember with other '55 senior cars.

The RF vent window photo shows the 'EZ Eye' inscription, just barely, in the glass.

Also included is a close up of what I believe to be propane system controls. Is this correct?

Remaining photos are general exterior and I will sort through and post them.

Others are working on information about a previous owner, and we will see what they discover.

(o{}o)

Just noticed the date code on the vent window glass (SAFETY 4 16L). I believe this is the date code of December 16, 1954). Anyone remember how auto glass was coded in those days?
