.....where previously all the RHD cars were made (in Canada)

Not entirely true. During the period the Canadian plant was in operation, the Detroit facility did occasionally produce RHD cars. I've only seen a couple but have data on quite a few more and have always wondered what factors made them decide on Detroit over Canada. There were other RHD countries that were not part of the Commonwealth, for example Sweden and Japan so perhaps RHD cars for those destinations were built in Detroit? It's also interesting that the Canadian plant produced fairly large numbers of junior cars in LHD in 1935-36-37. Oh what mysteries Packard left us to try and figure out.

For a number of years ending about 1931 and for how far back before that I don't know, the RHD cars had an "R" stamped at the end of the vehicle number, as in the photo.

A little info on John, Annet and "Junior". When I was in the market to buy my first Packard, from a guy here who had 2 Packards for sale, I had the choice between "Junior" and a '38 Eight Sedan, but I chose the '38 Eight. John(Appin) and Annet(Tidbinbilla2) are both Packardinfo members and now residents of the USA. John originally came from Texas and, following marriage to Annet, the couple lived in Oz. Then, following John's retirement last year, they moved to the US to live permanently.

Lots of good photos from this year's Meet. I took many, but most of them were with people in them, unlike what is normally shown with just the Packard featured. Here are a few more, but before that I would like to share a story with you.

In my last posting I mentioned Miles Furlong (yes, that is his real name). Miles is a graduate of the 4-year bachelors auto restoration program at McPherson College in Kansas. Thinking about Miles and his interesting name, I had another experience with an attendee who also has an interesting name. Garrett (GearRat52), get it?

Garrett is no stranger here, having posted many times about the trials and rewards with his 52 Packard. The latest round being brake problems. Anyway, I met Garrett and his father on Saturday afternoon. They had rented a car and driven up from San Antonio. We were about ready to take the Clipper for a drive around the village and I offered he and his father a ride. Garrett took me up on the offer and his father passed. We drove around for a while with Garrett enjoying the ride in the back seat.

Upon returning to the Inn I noticed David Stewart was parking his 1925 SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Sorry for the interruption, the batteries in my keyboard went dead. Now to continue...

Upon returning to the Inn I noticed David Stewart was parking his 1925 Single 8 Touring. I took note of the juxtaposition, David had the oldest car at the Meet and Garrett is the youngest owner of a Packard. I introduced them. David, without missing a beat walked up to Garrett and extended his hand for a friendly shake, and said at the same time without missing a beat: "Do you know much about electricity?" I think they found much to talk about in their span of generations.

Just thought it was a neat story and wanted to share.

Here are a few more photos from the Meet. You may have seen better ones of these on the previously mentioned links. I wanted to give a brief description of these pre-war cars.

The 1936 and 1941 convertibles were stars of the show. Both nicely done. The 41 has the running board delete option. The absence of them really enhances the look of the car.

The 1940 Super 8 Club Coupe was one of my favorites. Understated beauty and design.

The 1935 120 Touring Sedan has to be a rare one for the first year of the junior line. Packard put a lot of styling into this line.

The 1936 120 Sedan belonged to the Weiss family of early Packard history.

The 1940 Super 8 180 Club Sedan really caught my eye. I would sell the ranch for it. The interior is just as luxurious as it gets. I wanted to crawl in there and never get out. It belonged to the late Jim Hollingsworth, and is air conditioned, natch.
