That McMaster site is amazing. They have a little of everything. I just keep forgetting about them. I think that shaft would work. I'll give it a day or two. If no one else has a better idea I'll order one.

I had planned to use an Allen socket but it's too large to through the lower hole inside the distributor shaft.

Would an extended socket Allen fit thru the hole? If so you might be able to find a set locally for not too much $$ and it is always nice to have an excuse to buy tools.

A 3/8 socket will not fit in the hole.
So, the Allen wrench portion would have to be about 8" long so it would stay above the hole or I would have to find a 5/16 Allen socket to fit a 1/4" socket wrench.

I think it would be cheaper to get that stock at McMasters that you posted yesterday.

Stewart, did you ever find an appropriate non-resistor rotor? I'm looking for one too for a Delco-Remy distributor on a 1954 Packard and apparently some of the V8 models used the same model. I went to Napa today and they said they had never heard of a resistor rotor for these older Delco units so I came away with nothing.

You need to buy a 5/16s hex rod. And cut to length.

Yea, that's what Howard suggested last night and I will probably go that route. He even provided a link for.

That's the exact same problem I had. According to the product packaging, there is no such thing as a non-resistor rotor.
I'm sure the guys here know what they are talking about but I have moved on. I'll just go with the one I got from NAPA.

Yes, they have the exact same rotor as I have from NAPA for the Delco. It has what some of the guys are calling a resistor.

Only the Auto-Lite uses the rotor that they are describing.

So I ordered that "Steel Hex Bar, 5/16" Wide, 3 Feet Long" from the McMaster-Carr website and it arrived today. As a precaution, I ordered 3' as it was less cheap.

I'm glad I got the longer length as it took a full 13" just to reach the top of the block. I cut it at 18", leaving me with 5" above the distributor hole as shown below.

So if anyone is interested I have an extra, custom made one of kind, Packard/Oldsmobile Oil Pump, priming tool. It can be yours for $200.
