I’d pull the head , clean it up make sure valves aren’t stuck open . Compression doesn’t have to be high ,as much as consistent across all 8 holes . Like 5 psi difference with all 8 . Good luck !!

carb starter switch is a real pain in the butt. I rewired mine to a starter button on the dash. 100% reliable

there is 2 wires on my 1948 on the side of the carb a small ball baring is inside when the igntion switch is turned on the ball baring compleats the curcuit to the starter solenoid

No quite. The bearing actuates the switch. It is the switch that does the electrical work, not the ball.
