I've had this packard for about 10 years and I'm just now getting around to working on it. As you can tell I've started to take off the trim in preparation for cleaning and painting.

Woo Hoo! Another Bathtub owner! My favorite postwar model of Packard next to the V8 models! I have to ask, did the bullet that made the hole next to the grile get very far into the engine compartment? And did you get a chance to shoot back??

Thanks for your comments. I get lots of questions about that bullet hole. I'm happy to say it was a previous owner that got shot at. But I have been told that people pay money for stickers that look like bullet holes, this one is real. It's a testament to the materials used on these packards that the bullet did not go through. Here's a picture of the state of dissasembly.

Frank,

Interesting that a previous owner was shot at! Now that you've whetted our appetites, what's the story behind it? And, are you going to leave the bullet dent and restore the car around it?

I wish I knew the story behind it and it's not beyond me to make one up, but I'll step out of character and admit that I have no idea how the bullet hole got there. But, I am considering not repairing it.

Frank,

Pity you don't have the story behind the bullet hole. If there was a good story that would sway me for one to leave it as is and restore around it as a "feature" of the '50's history.

I'm in the process of taking off the crystals and have removed the dash and wire harness. I found that the wires were completely corroded. It was cloth type insulation, it just didn't hold up. I'm going to re-wire it all from scratch. Here is a picture of the dash.

I also found a little broshure that was tied to the clock. I scanned it and here is the front page of it. The pages were very brittle almost like butterfly wings, but I was able to scan it all.
