Thanks so very much for posting those. Perhaps they can find their way into the archive.

Was greatly pleased to see that the straight eight was still taking some trophies home in 54. Consumer Reports did say the 53 Clipper with overdrive was "excessively powered". Wonder how to find more details of those races.

Now if you will excuse me, I feel a need to take my 54 Clipper Super for a vicarious victory lap.

Ross,

All the photos were from various "Packard News". Maybe some of the locals of the events described, could find out more. I am guessing the local paper has an archive of past editions. The local library might some things as well.

Would the noted governing bodies of the races have what your looking for?

Something else to try is to check the phone listing in the area for the same last name, as the one listed. You might just get lucky, and talk to someone with 1st hand knowledge.

Water?

Guess I will have to watch some old episodes of McHales Navy to see Packard Powered PT boats in action!

Not a lot of PT boat action these days but here is a video that at least mentions the engines and shows the engine room. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AG8x8C5I8a0

Dirt?

Here is a Packard powered tractor running in a Tractor Pull.
Sounds like a Diesel.
