One of the advantages of being the owner of a ORPHAN is that it gets noticed in the sea of Ford, Chevy cars that are the main stay of events. Seems people are drawn to few rather than the many. If you miss a event people will notice you are not there .
Seems everyone knows or had a relative who had one just like yours. they do make a impression .
Part of the reward for the work we put into our cars is this attention we get.
All the dirt skinned knuckles sweat are repaid when some one says nice car you have earned the smiles and nice car comments you get.

great job Kev.

the hardest thing i have trouble with is when i hear "nice car" i sometimes think about all the little imperfections that only i know about, or that nobody ever seems to notice.

we are our worst critic and man that is hard to ignore sometimes.

But thumbs up from me Kev, even if you think about those small imperfections.

It is gratifying to have people notice and give your car a thumbs-up when you think of all the hard work YOU put into it.
Beautiful car Kev!

Im a rat rodder by nature the last 30 years but ive always enjoyed owning the unique cars and driving them. When you go to shows and all you see is a sea of 53, 54s with desoto grills.. lol. I love my Packard and its imprefections and its lil rough edges of its life in the PNW, I left it shine. Everyone comes up passes the chevs and ford 401k cars to my old betty and shows her love.

BK,

You really did a nice job.

So will you be driving it to Salado next year?

Thanks guys!

Not sure it would make it all the way to Salado with a non-functional direct drive.

Also, the gas cost would bankrupt me!

Kev. looks like the 55 cowl seal does not have them molded into the rubber. that was why i was asking about the little pins to hold it in place.

actually the cowl seal looks completely different in 55 according to steele rubber's website. i wish it had those rubber nipples though, would make it much easier it seems!

Well the seal I have came out of the Yocum pile. It was from Steele Rubber (still bagged), but probably 5-6 years old. The problem is that even though it has the nipples, the spacing is off and the seal doesn't lay evenly because of it. Too much material between each nipple location, so it looks like cooked bacon. Not sure if it was made wrong, or got stretched out some how. But it was still in the Steele Rubber packaging.

I will probably end up taking a razor blade and cut off the nipples flat, so I can just glue the seal to directly to the cowl. This should let lay the way it is supposed to on the cowl.
