115C door handles

I have to remove the passanger door handle on my 115C and I do not want to tear up the uphostery. Besides the screws on the outside of the door how are the door handles secured to the doors? There must be a screw or bolt somewhere.

If memory serves me right You need to shove the bezel around the door handle ( push it towards the outside of door. ) Then You should be able to access the rear of handle where you will find a pin, shove it out with a small punch or something like a piece of brazing rod. Don't lose the pin.

You are correct with your instructions.

I recently removed all my inside and outside handles of my 115-C, so I could do some cleaning and polishing in the comfort of my basement work shop rather than my unheated Artic Vortex located garage. I did not want to worry about damaging the door panels with any metal cleaning products.

All the inside handles have a large tension spring behind the bezel, between the back of the door panel and the door frame to facilitate the pressure of pushing the bezel in.

I was really surprised how easy it was.

The outside door handle is held on by the two outside screws only.

I can't comment specifically on the 115C, but on the 36 and earlier senior cars, the exterior door handle that was lockable (front passenger side) was attached differently than the others. If it were not, you could simply remove the handle with the external escutcheon screws to gain access. What they had was a screw on the inside stub end of the shaft that prevented the handle from being removed by simply removing the two outer screws.

If you have the opportunity, take a look at the passenger side front door interior door panel; what you should see (at least for 1932-34) is a small flathead nickel plated screw head and metal grommet fitted neatly into the door panel. This is screwed into the handle shank and prevents the door handle from being removed from the outside. Only the key-lockable handle has this feature.

I reemoved the inside right door panel and did not find any screw in the rear of the shaft. I took off the two screws that hold the door handle on the outside and the handle and shaft came right out. I think I may have a cobbled up handle setup as the locksmiths can't pick the lock and the one key that was made from a code on the shaft does not work either. The screw at the back makes sense and I have seen other handles that have them. Thanks again.
