We V8 owners really missed an opportunity on pistons a few years back. Some of you will recall the Kanter offered to have exact repro of factory autothermic strut design pistons manufactured for the 352 and 374 engines in std. and oversizes and only asked for a reasonable number of expressions of interest in them - I believe only 2 people expressed an interest so the project was abandoned.

Ross is a brand name of pistons. Are you familiar with Google?http://www.rosspistons.com/

Forged pistons have greated strength than cast pistons and thus are desired when building high performance engines,.

Here is a comparison of the stock Packard cast piston and a Ross forged piston for my Panther engine. As O_D posted, the advantage of forged pistons is that they will take more abuse than a cast piston. The disadvantage is that they are more expensive. One picture == 1,000 words.

If the car was only operated at low speeds and was not often allowed to warm up then the carbon problem is typical. Same for streight weight oil. Need to use an sae 10 -30 and run the shit out of that engine at 70 to 100 mph for 10 miles or more on a hot day. The 50"s thru 70"s v8's do not like to be pampered.

From you? I'm surprised. You know that answer and you know that wasn't the question.

Obviously google will find the website (well, usually) and the website will tell me what the company wants me to hear. I want to know if these folks are reliable and what you think of their products. Beyond the fact that one of my grandmothers was a Ross, I have no experience with these folks.

Responding to others: this car has been driven on the road frequently and hardly pampered. Oil consumption was low. Perhaps a quart in say 800 miles, which includes drips. Owner says synthetic oil, probably Mobil 1. Weight is subject of some speculation.

Pat, sorry if I offended but I'm a bit flabbergasted that you never heard of Ross pistons. They've been discussed a good many times on this forum and others and are very well known to most anyone who does serious engine work, or who reads about it.
