What was the factory color for the engine? Mine looks like it might have been gold.

According to the Packard Club (www.packardclub.org) all Packard engines from 1948 through 1954 were gray, except for the 1954 359 engine which was bronze. The gray paint for your engine is available from Bill Hirsch (www.hirschauto.com) or just about any Packard parts house.

My '48 Custom 8 was painted grey (I used Ford grey engine paint when I repainted it.) My '48 Std 8 was green, but someone may have repainted it in the last 67 years.

66Toaster,

Is there a chance your Caribbean had a heart transplant at some stage and now has a '54 359? Checking the engine number will prove or disprove that hypothesis.

Or painted to look like a '54 359? As Mal writes, the engine number will tell all.
