Barbara Stanwyck gets behind the wheel of a pre-War Packard in "Double Indemnity."

Also, in the Humphrey Bogart movie "The Big Sleep," a big senior Packard is pulled out of San Fransisco Bay by its rear bumper.

I'm sorry I'm not more adept at being able to identify a the year of Packard by just looking it, except for when there were significant design changes.

Hate to say this, but General Sternwood's Packard limousine was driven off a pier in Los Angeles, not San Francisco.

You can make a lot of really neat things from the parts left over after you rebuild your engine ...

There is a scene in the 1950 movie "Gun Crazy" when Bart Tare (John Dahl) and Laurie Starr (Peggy Cummins) decide to split up after committing their biggest robbery. Bart stays in his car (maybe a Plymouth) and Laurie gets behind the wheel of a 1948 or '49 Packard convertible. Then Bart ditches his car and rejoins Laurie and the two drive away in the Packard. Good choice!

Oh, that's right. Well, at least I got the fact it was on the West Coast correct.

BTW, do you know what model Packard it was?

Appears to be a 1938 Packard 8 (120), note the 38 type sidemount fenders, and the metal wing on the hood ornament, as 39 was the first year for glass wing.....1938&39 120 used the same headlight.

I agree that it appears to be a '38, as it's too wide a grille to be a '40 , and has a split windshield, which started in 1938

Just saw a commercial for the upcoming Grease Live musical airing this Sunday. Looks like a red 53? Caribbean Convertible will be in it.
