Manage to get the transmission case cleaned up inside and out. Inside just needed to be wiped clean with a rag. Nothing stuck or burned on. Outside required copious brake cleaner and a brass wire wheel.

I also remove the pressure switch and t-fitting as I won't need them on my '54 setup. The pipe plug that was in the end of the t-fitting was reused to plug that pressure sender port.

I also pulled apart the rest of the high range clutch using the clutch compressor tool I picked up. Made for easy work.

Looking good BigKev. It's quite a different tranny case to my '51 Ultra, but the High Range Clutch looks very similar. (Although I have found the 5-plate part numbers for my clutch housing are different than the 6-plate ones for some parts, which could prove a bit of a trap if it had been overlooked).

Bushing is different too, with that slot cut across it.

Your new spring compressor is a great find . . . I can't get one here, would have to import from the States, which will take a couple of weeks, so I'm in the process of making one which I hope will do the job.

Kev- I see you still left alot of guts in your housing, are you going to take it on down? there are a few items that need to be inspected.

Larry, you could make one like the original Packard one with some threaded rod, a couple large thick washers, a couple nuts, and some steel rod stock, and a mig welder. I found this tool cheap enough, so figured I would use it rather than making a run to the metal supply store.

If you look at Hank's blog, he used two large C-Clamps to accomplish the same thing.

Thanks - I've got a plan for a home-made one using the threaded rod etc like you suggested. Will post a few pics when it's done.

Waiting on rebuild kit to arrive. So no new progress on the tranny as of yet.

BigKev; When you clean your parts-use solvent and blow dry-not a good idea to use rags as lint can get in valve body and cause problems.

Everything will get another round of solvent cleaning before assembly. Rags were used to wipe out the sludge for the body.
