Wonder if any Packard owners have done this conversion and how they like the unit.

Between those Craig built in the early days and those I've done, there are hundreds of conversions sold and installed. The Olds pump is as good as we can get for the Packard V8 oiling system.

FWIW, there was occasionally interference between the corner of the Olds pump and the Packard oil pan. This could be solved by selective grinding to fit.

To avoid this, the next production batch will have a slightly shorter adapter block for more clearance.

Every time I have the parts machined, I wonder how many more Packard V8s will be built, but without any advertising, the kits eventually sell out and I have to make more.

Yup. Do you think there might be a demand? As far as I know, nobody ever said the conversion did not work. I think the conversion saved a lot of V-8s from oil pump/bearing/lifter failure.

I've had my kit in my 56 400 for about 8 years (~ 5,000 miles). I'm very happy with the set up and have had no issues whatsoever.

I had a rebuilt Packard oil pump (rebuilt by one of the best in the business) in a newly rebuilt engine. The engine would not run without massive lifter noise. I put in the Olds kit and it cured it immediately. Now it runs like a Packard engine should!

I would highly recommend the Olds oil pump conversion.

I've got one in my 56 400... I've done only about 2,000 miles since car was finished in October, but it works perfectly...

Are any of the modified Olds pumps available? How do I purchase one?

Contact Jack Vines:

packardv8@comcast.net

And the kit is an adapter using a stock Olds oil pump, NOT a modified Olds pump.
