That brass item looks interesting too but if the price of brass metal stock compared to aluminum stock is any indication I would be sitting down when you call them. The $$ on an order of brass round and flat bars I bought a few months ago almost made me faint.

I believe it and if they don't advertise pricing....then I can't afford it.

"if they don't advertise pricing....then I can't afford it"

Hank,

Concerning the Sylphon thermostat, Max does advertise pricing for those @ $395.00 plus $100.00 core charge. Imagine, after that, an aluminium radiator would look even more attractive?

working with CGJ because my radiator isn't exactly like their offerings. can possibly keep slyphon unit and if it ever fails...use it to hold the shutters open.

slyphon works. tested in pot of water on stove. it moves and holds position and returns when cooling off.

Henry,
One of our members( now deceased ) fitted a vacuum valve from a Mack truck to operate the grill on his 16th series seven passenger. It opens fully when the engine is running and closes when the engine is shut down.
He left the syphon system in place, I believe that Peter Packard could know how it was done.
Regards Pepe.

thanks for that information. I have decided to work with CGJ on a new aluminum radiator with custom mounted fans for parades, etc.

I will not use the sylphon unit. CGJ said it is possible to fabricate the mounting hole for it on the aluminum radiator at additional cost.

I will just have him weld on a bracket that will accept the bolt for the shutters....I can adjust the shutters manually, but in all honest...they will just stay open...like I said...Texas.

this will allow me to move and hold the shutters in any position I wish and save me money on the radiator build.

my sylphon unit does work though....didn't think it did, but I think the adjustment wasn't set right. I set it in water on the stove and it moved and held position and moved back after cooling.

took off the pressure cap from my radiator...it was soldered on and jb welded as well. will be measuring this with dial calipers to provide to CGJ as I plan on a normal factory setup. possibly with a overflow nipple built in so I can run a hose to a catch can.

also looking at using Evans waterless coolant. stuff is crazy awesome, but expensive as well.

Am curious how much force is exerted on the shutters going down the road. If there is no thermostat linkage to keep them open any chance they could close from vibration or wind force and cause issues? Maybe you could rig up a lock bracket or something like a choke cable or heavier duty push pull cable to operate them.

shutters will close on their own even when not moving. have to hold them open with radiator out. could use cable to open and close from cab....bracket welded to radiator would also help serve this purpose. good idea.

If they move that freely an ordinary choke cable might not hold them open so maybe some kind of locking cable is in order. Mc Master has some locking type cables in various lengthshttp://www.mcmaster.com/#6161k11/=149oqfp and aircraft also use various methods to lock throttle cables.http://www.aircraftspruce.com/search/search.php?s=THROTTLE+CABLE+lock&x=34&y=5

I had my Sylphon rebuilt for $250. At the same company that made it. It works as it should on my 1937 138CD Limo.
I have one 1937 CD radiator and several others that have the hump where a Sylphon can be added.
