I replaced the worn and filthy hood pad on my 55 Clipper. I used some sheet insulation material used to wrap water heaters, rather than going with the fiberglass bat type. I bought it at Lowe's and it is probably available at Home Depot too. I made up a 3-layer mat for thickness and painted the exposed sides black. It is more attractive - in my opinion - than the original type. It provided good heat insulation and some sound deadening. I believe it is pictured in my project blog about the renovation of the Clipper. Probably down several pages in the projects forum. However, if you are looking for an authentic look, go with the fiberglass type. JWL

Unlike the large photo of his 56 repro, Dwight Heinmuller has a very small photo of his reproduction 55 pad on his website. While the photo doesn't provide much detail the description of how his repro differs from an original might.https://www.packardparts.org/products/parts/ The pads are about midway down the page.

I have a junior car and I went with a universal pad from RockAuto, a Metro HI3 (48"x65"). was around $45. Used 3M spray adhesive. It is a black-grey color. Here's a picture for reference.

The one from Rock Auto looks a lot closer to the original.
