1940 120? Front brake drum, 12"

So, just got a brake drum that I purchased off of ebay, looked like the one I needed for my 110.

Wrong. Turns out to not be the 11" I needed but a 12" that probably fits the 120 and senior models. This may be NOS; it appears to be painted silver with a bit of rust from age; the wear surface looks excellent, but does have some surface rust--could clean up nicely with a turning.

Any interest? The ebay ad is attached. Just looking to recoup my money as I shop around for the 11"...

Good item for the shelf for one who either drives their car a lot, or knows the wear limit on their drums.
Would help to clarify width of the lining surface, as well as the measurement to confirm NOS.
I have a brain cell buzzing that the difference 35-38 and 40-later is the diameter of the grease cap. Might help to ID by measuring that too.

tsherry,

On 12" diameter, the depth can be 2-1/4 (for 2"shoes) or 2-1/2 (for 2-1/4 width shoes). Measure the diameter accurately. I think there's only 1/10" of wear allowed. If that much or more, a shop may not mount it, legally.

If the diameter is 12" to 12.05", a buyer ought to know. "Looks in good condition" doesn't mean it was measured and is usable. If it doesn't measure out, return it for your guaranteed eBay refund.

And please, if someone knows the accurate amount of wear for a 12" drum, chime in here.

CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG BUT

That drum, 12" inside diameter (Centrifuse Brand 12") with 2-1/4 depth is only for:

120 Ambulance, uses part #234734 for front and #333200 for the rear.

The hubs for front and rear must be different for all of these.

These three have the same hub front-rear combinations.
1804 5-pass. Super8 160 Touring Sedan 138" WB; front #316491, rear #333931
1808 7-pass. Custom Super 8 180 Towncar Limo Sedan 148" WB front#316491 rear#333931
1807 5-pass. Customer Super 8 180 Rollston, Darrin, Formal, Touring 138"WB front#316491 rear#333931

1805 7-pass. Super 8 160 Limo or Touring Sedan , 148" WB front#316491 rear#316492

Unless you return it for a refund, you'll have to measure the outer ID and inner ID of the hole for the axle so a buyer can match their old one to your measurements.

The drum you need for a 110 has an 11" diameter and a depth of 1-3/4".

Besides '40, it may be good for '41 and '42 similar models.

Good decision.

This has been a good reminder to ask sellers to measure drum diameter, depth, inner and out hub diameter and condition of the drum (rust) that would have to be removed by turning and still be usable, safe, and or mountable (legally).
