On these door lock assemblies, how is the actual tumbler removed?

The pin (red arrow) needs to be driven out of the hole in the long tongue part (green arrow). The pin needs to come out straight and while driving the pin out you must take extreme care and fully support however you can the two pot metal ears (blue arrows) and the small U shaped piece the pin also passes thru so they are not taking all the resistance for the pin drive alone. Maybe some layered shim stock between the tongue, U piece, and ears to take care of the different heights. Those cast on ears are part of the tumbler section and if one is taking all the driving force it will break off with the pressure, stress, or even an accidental blow.

I can't remember the pin geometry exactly but as I recall it has a slightly narrower center so the tongue can flex or rock a bit when in position while the outer ends of the pin provide a press fit to the hole in the tongue to keep it retained.

was just thinking it might be possible to heat the entire tongue so the residual heat might travel up the piece to expand the hole slightly before trying to drive the pin out. You would need to pay strict attention to the amount and where it is appalied as the pot metal melts a few hundred degress less than the steel tongue could take.

Thank you, Howard! So bottom line is to carefully remove the pin and I presume then it will be obvious what is holding in the actual tumbler.
