BDeB posted overall input shaft diameters for the two units.https://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=17569&post_id=174654#forumpost174654

The senior or larger input shaft trans is only used with the 356 engine and the end of the shaft that goes into the pilot bearing is just a few thousandths under 1" on that unit. Don't have a definite number handy on the pilot end for the smaller unit but think it is around 3/4 or 7/8. In addition to pilot bearing, the clutch disc and possibly the pressure plate also would need to change to accommodate a different shaft. Throwout bearing and entire carrier assy is also different.

The senior R9 OD will also have 4 planetary pinions in the unit vs 3 for the smaller OD.

I have a 1939 120. It has an R-6.
The 1940 is the first year of the R-9

Did ya'll determine what it is? I'm looking for an od transmission to put in my 1940 110 6 cylinder. If this is a junior I would absolutely be interested in it if you still have it. Text to 510-385-1183 if still available.

Did you try Tucson Packards? They just bought several 1941 parts cars which may have proper OD units for your car.
