With that ratio, a good running engine, and the wide open state of Texas it kind of sounds like the next good project would be an OD.

Pick up a 48 or later R11 smaller engine trans/OD combo and see if flackmaster could set you up with a cane shift top so you could keep your current trans intact to sell or trade. Do the trans mod from column to cane shift as Peter Toet shows in his how to article.

If you have the governor OD can be made to run as normal with repro and off the shelf components but if not, run the OD with a toggle switch like one of the other fellows does in his pre 40 car. The rest of the install would be a relatively simple conversion -- probably less involved than the EFI.

alittle bit of an update.

I had an issue where the car would want to die and ramp up really lean when I would throw the clutch in and come to a stop. it would go up to 18:1 - 20:1 and sometimes not recover. this was an easy fix with adjusting the throttle blades at idle, which also helped with my WOT percentage. I am now getting 95% throttle blade opening when flooring it. car idles at 750 and i adjusted the AFR to 13.2 from 13.5. Now when i come to a stop it will go to 14.5-15ish and recover perfectly.

I have some more fine tuning to do with the inital amount of fuel it squirts when you first start the car. gotta find that sweet spot so i can get it to fire off a bit faster without cranking too much. and i might add a bit more timing in it to see how it handles.

but overall, its just still WAY better then i ever imagined. Gas gauge finally moved down to 3/4 tank so i know the sender is working... wont know how accurate until i run out of gas and see where the needle is, but hopefully i got it pretty close...my concern is the pickup tube and where it lays inside the tank since i made it by hand.

I'll post a new video soon and one of it driving. I'll also post a pic of the temp of the adaptor when the car is running at and warmed up. i can put my hand on it and its cold to the touch.....Intake air temps hold at 104, but i bet they cool when it hits that adaptor....kinda like a single plane intake or carb spacer. really nice.

its been 107 in my shop lately....and the car idles at 189 degrees. that AFR really is helping the temps and maybe i can dial in that timing a bit more now as well.

since the computer on the EFI unit tells me much more about the car now...i noticed how much the incandescent bulbs were taxing the system (not to say it couldn't handle it) but i went to all LEDs and it barely dips the volts now (like 0.2 volts) and they are WAY brighter!

Took some temp readings when the car warmed up. 95 at the intake… 77 below the efi at the adaptor. Water outlet… 182… top of radiator 155. Solved the cranking on cold start too. Adjusted the squirt to 150% and Boom… popped right off instantly.

Yes I know it has a pod filter on it… just couldn’t bring myself to cut up the oil bath unit. Odd I know….

Video. Zero bogging when giving it gas. Revs up to 5k if I need it. (I set the rev limiter in the efi and it cuts fuel then). 102 in the shop right now and the intake air temp… MATF is mid 90s lmfao! Winning….

Who wants an adaptor? Lol!

Efi is still running great! My fuel gauge is pretty darn accurate too. Not perfect, but way better then the old one. Went 140 miles and put in a little over 18 gallons which means alittle over 7mpg. But that includes ALOT of idle time and ALOT of flooring it just to feel the power it gave me. Also driving 70mph too. I also changed to 13:1 afr from 13:5. Seems to like that better when I’m slowing to a stop. Otherwise it tends to lean out and sometimes die. But has not done that yet at 13:1. Also 150% on cold crank must have been a fluke… I ended up at 400% and it never fails to start right off. Probably need to adjust that down to mid 300 though. But it def wants a nice fuel squirt for cold start… more then Holley thinks it should have anyways… they say max 200. Spark plugs are gapped more and timing is more then stock too though. Might have something to do with it.

Next tank… maybe 10 mpg. Idk. Not sure what factory mpg was. 8-10 I’m guessing. No clue. I’m slowing down to 55 mph on this next tank too.

Thanks…. I tried. Not bad for fence piping and some left over flat stock. And just my hands. I’m no Ross though.

On the 2nd cylinder to fire on the pair of siamesed intake cylinders are you getting different plug colors like the half are running rich and the other half lean? Cylinders 1/3/6/8 versus 2/4/5/7 robbing fuel?

Thanks,
John

With tbi throttle body injection that should not be a problem since it basically behaves like a carb. If the car was converted to Port injection, where there was one injector per intake runner I think that would be a problem.
