That is quite an impressive split. Next question is how many of your neighbors called 911 when it happened.

Hank & Howard, strangely no one came out to look when the bomb went off. I make a lot of different noises around here, so maybe they just checked it off to that crazy old man working on one of those old cars.

Must've been a serious amount of fumes in the system to make that kind of explosion. Perhaps you did have a serious flooding problem. Hope it's all better now. Was the first muffler a Midas? Did they replace it free?

Guy, the muffler and rest of the exhaust system are Midas done by the previous owner. No free replacement, but the new muffler has a free life-time replacement.

I took the Clipper on its first extended drive on Sunday. I drove it to the Cars and Coffee event in Leander a small community about 25 miles northwest of Austin. The car now starts easily and runs nicely. The Clipper received much attention (the only Packard on display) and was the recipient of many nice comments. I found a small oil leak that I thought had been fixed, and there is a slight stumble above 50 mph. Otherwise, the car drove and rode as a Packard should. It was a mixed route of freeway and surface streets and roads. This is much different than when I tried to take it to the event a month ago. I guess the garage demons have decided to haunt some other garage.

John,
In the 100F temps, my 56 Caribbean would also stumbled above 50mph after about 30 minutes at speed. Much to my surprise, the stumble disappeared when I turned on the electric fuel pump. A surprise every day.

I agree on the electric pusher pump. I've had one on my 55 Pat for 12 years and, except for when it failed, I've never had a stumble, hesitation or hard start situation.

BTW, thanks for posting the pics. I really like the monochromatic black. It almost makes the trim disappear!

JW, Car looks great! Wish I could be in Leander. Used to live in Killeen and I know the area. Weather looks just like it should, a great Central Texas day for driving a Packard!
